Cook together. Eat together.

We’re Lee and Rebel, mom and daughter food bloggers, who like to cook at home some of the time and also enjoy going out to eat just about any time. Let’s be honest. After a long day of work and the busyness of our lives, the prospect of planning, shopping and cooking feels daunting.

Perhaps like us, you put the most effort into special occasions and gatherings, like holidays, birthdays, backyard parties and large family meals. We love these times not only for eating together but for the fun of prepping and cooking together. So often, there’s at least one person in the group with a food intolerance or allergy, so we’re here to help with workarounds and delicious updates to favorite recipes for gatherings.

Join us at the table as we reminisce and share stories about family gatherings and traditions. And as we try to be more present and grounded in our relation to food and community in our busy lives.

Why “Burnt Toast”?

An image of burnt toast is not what you’d expect to invite you into a food blog. But there’s a story here. Norma, our mom and grandma, loved burnt toast. Well, not really burnt, but crispy and well done. She liked the flavor and texture of foods cooked to a nice caramel color. With her toast well done, she could dunk it in her coffee. That was the way she liked to start her day.

This memory reminds us of other stories we want to tell. Our intention is to share some of our favorite family recipes, the fun we have cooking together, and the simple pleasures of gathering with friends and family for a meal.

We hope that you not only enjoy our recipes but also the stories and mother-daughter conversations. Join us at the table as we gather to cook together and eat together.
