Citrus Tequila Shrimp

Citrus Tequila Shrimp

Here's a Super Easy, 10-Minute Marinade that Makes the Best Grilled Shrimp

Living near the ocean means we eat quite a lot of seafood in our diet. From fish to crab, our family loves a good surf and turf meal or just surf. One of the family favorites is shrimp. We like to grill, boil, or add them to a stir fry.

Rebel is not a huge fan of shrimp, but she was surprised after making this dish at how delicious the citrus, tequila combination is with the shrimp flavor. She swears she'd even cook and eat this again.

Fresh orange and lime zest adds extra flavor compared to traditional dried zest. It's easy and quick and worth the effort.

We barbecued the shrimp after marinating it in a mixture of tequila, citrus zest, and salt. We find fresh zest adds an extra punch of flavor and prefer it over dried zest. This recipe is great as a main dinner dish or as a side to compliment steak or chicken.

Simple shrimp skewers are great for summertime dinner or a quick, easy meal for two.

Citrus Tequila Shrimp
Here’s a simple, 10-minute marinade that makes the tastiest grilled shrimp. It’s simply tequila, fresh lime zest, and orange zest. Great for appetizers, a main dish, or delicious side for your steak or chicken barbecue.
Ingredients
  • 1 pound medium shrimp (31/40 count size), raw, shelled and deveined
  • 1/4 cup tequila
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lime zest (about 2 limes)
  • 2 teaspoons fresh orange zest, (1 orange)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon chile powder (optional)
  • olive oil
Instructions
1. If using bamboo skewers, soak them in water for 20-30 minutes. 2. Combine the tequila (shout, “Tequila!”), lime and orange zests, and salt. Toss in the shrimp and mix to coat. Set aside for 10 minutes. 3. Thread the shrimp on skewers. Alternatively, you can use a grill skillet. 4. If using chile powder, sprinkle on the shrimp. 5. Heat the grill to medium. Oil the grill. 6. Grill the shrimp 1-2 minutes and flip. Cook until pink and just cooked through. Remove from the grill and serve immediately.
